Abraham’s Blessing

Torah“And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, because Abraham listened to my voice and kept my charge: my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”” (Gen 26:4–5, LEB)

In pouring out his blessing, God is demonstrating his love. One perspective of God’s blessing highlights the nations as the recipient of his blessing and regards the lineage of Abraham simply as the vessel. Another perspective identifies Abraham’s lineage as the recipient of so great a blessing that they will impact the world as a blessing to the nations. God’s perspective is all that matters with regard to his blessings. What does he have to say about the matter? Perhaps both are legitimate. Continue reading

Take a Walk

Names – Just who are we talking about here?

God’s personal and proper name is important to Him. He clearly desires to be known by His name. יהוה (ee-ah-ow-ah) is spelled out around 7000 times but has been substituted in nearly all English bibles with something that is not His name. God sent a prophet who came in His name to speak the words that the people couldn’t bear to hear from God Himself. The prophet’s name is יהושע (ee-ah-ow-sh-a’). Today, the names of God and His prophet are virtually unknown by the masses of devotes who sing songs about the names they neither mention nor know. After considering the facts and applying logic and reason, we must choose what God has instructed or what we have become familiar with. For most, I suspect familiarity will trump reason.

What if we were never taught to ‘carry the 1’ in math class? Then 567+493 would = 950 instead of 1060. If everyone calculated #’s with this flaw such that nobody (or very few) could even recognize that something is not adding up right, what difference would it make? How about if only the scholars had figured out the error leaving the math teachers in the dark for fear of lost revenue over the mistrust and debate that would ensue within the student population? Such a scenario is of course preposterous. Continue reading

Questions

Right answers are entirely irrelevant until the right questions have been presented.  The continuation of this blog (should anyone become interested) will address fundamental questions that are seldom asked and are derived from these core three:

What does God love?

What does God hate?

What is particularly important to God? Continue reading
